FC Balboa Concludes Landmark Winter Camp with Croatian National Team Coach

FC Balboa has officially concluded its highly anticipated Winter Player Camp and Coaching Clinic, marking a historic milestone for youth soccer in Southern California. The event featured Coach Sreten Ćuk, the current Croatia U15 National Team Head Coach, and the return of the club's fan-favorite, Coach Ziggy Zigante, delivering a world-class training experience to local athletes.

The multi-day program, held in the heart of San Diego, provided young players and area coaches with a direct window into the renowned "Croatian Development Method"—a system responsible for producing some of the world's most technically gifted professionals (Luka Modric). Coach Ćuk brings an elite pedigree to the pitch, having served as a key architect in the Dinamo Zagreb youth academy, where he directly coached and developed global superstars, including Spain international and FC Barcelona star Dani Olmo.

“Our mission has always been to elevate the standard of youth soccer in our community,” said Chhem Young-Penn, Director of Coaching at FC Balboa. “By hosting Coach Ćuk and Coach Ziggy, FC Balboa has successfully brought world-class coaching directly to San Diego. This camp wasn’t just about elite drills; it was about exposing our players and families to the professional standards that have been known to create world-class players like Dani Olmo.”

The camp saw record participation, with nearly 50 players attending the camps/clinics and over 100 players participating over the course of four days. Athletes from U10–U17 age groups focused on advanced technical mastery, tactical intelligence, and the psychological "bravery" required of modern players. Coach Ziggy, returning by popular demand, led specialized segments in goalkeeping that have become a hallmark of the FC Balboa training culture.
